My experience has been devastating and has changed my life forever.
The entire management of my treatment was handled by Iberia Clínica, a Spanish medical tourism company that organized both my trip and my treatment at Dr. Birkan Duras’s clinic in Istanbul.
Before traveling, I signed a contract with Iberia Clínica that clearly specified the placement of 20 porcelain veneers. Trusting their professional advice, I traveled to Turkey and paid for the treatment in cash to a representative of the company.
However, the reality was completely different. Instead of the veneers I had contracted for, I was fitted with dental crowns. To do this, 20 of my healthy natural teeth were permanently and irreversibly shaved down. I was never properly informed of the difference between veneers and crowns, nor did I give informed consent for such an aggressive and irreversible procedure.
As a patient, I felt misled, uninformed, and completely unprotected. What is even more disturbing is that, after everything that happened, no one is willing to take responsibility. The Spanish company blames the Turkish clinic, while the Turkish clinic blames the Spanish company. Meanwhile, I am the one who must live with the consequences of a decision that I never knowingly agreed to.
I have a copy of the contract, X-rays taken before and after the treatment, and recordings of conversations related to my case. All of this documentation clearly demonstrates that I contracted one treatment and received a completely different one.
What hurts me most is not only the physical damage I have suffered, but also the loss of trust and the feeling of being treated as a business opportunity rather than as a person. No one should ever undergo an irreversible medical procedure without fully understanding exactly what will be done and without giving clear and specific informed consent.
I am sharing my experience to warn other patients. Carefully review every document, demand written explanations, and make sure you fully understand the treatment you are going to receive before placing your trust in any intermediary company or clinic.
